San Luis Potosi comprises 58 municipal districts,
with the capital seated in the city of the same
name situated in the high desert. Is located 258
miles north of Mexico City, 319 miles south of
Monterrey and 211 miles northeast of Guadalajara
which are the three more important cities in the
country. Is also conveniently located at 397 miles
from Manzanillo, a very important access to the
Pacific Ocean. 507 miles from Veracruz and 249
miles from Tampico, main connections to the Golf
of Mexico. One of the most important cities at the
border with the US is Nuevo Laredo and is located
458 miles north. |

The International Airport “Ponciano Arriaga” connects the capital city with more than 70 cities which comprise a population of 58 millions in a 500 kilometers radio. And offers direct service to the cities of Houston and Dallas in the United States. Is located to the north at an average of 15 minutes drive from the main Hotels in the city. |

According to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Information
(INEGI), in the year 2000 the total surface of the county was 1,443.14 square
kilometers which San Luis potosi represents 2.38% of the total. At the same year,
the city consisted of 150,044 houses with an average occupation of 4
inhabitants per unit. Of this cipher, 96.47% of the homes had piped water,
94.95% had drainage and 98.10% had electric power. |
There is an Industrial Zone which generates thousands of jobs
for the local community. Since its formation in 1965 it’s been
growing at a very important rate, integrated nowadays by over
300 companies. More than 50% of this companies have direct foreign investment from The United States, Italy, Germany, Spain, England, Canada, France and Japan among others. In its beginnings it was called “Zona Industrial de San Luis”, but due to its high demand in the 80’s it was expanded to “Zona Industrial del Potosi”. |

The main economic activities in San Luis Potosi are divided in
four aspects: 29.28% of its population
is dedicated to the industry, 18.32% to services, 16.83% to commerce and 11.51% are
administrative workers. |
